A Clinical Study on Pancreatic Pseudocysts



Abstract
This is a retrospective clinical analysis of 22 cases of pancreatic pseudocyst who were treated surgically at the Department of Surgery, Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital from January 1982 to December 1991.
@ES The result were as follows:
@EN 1) The ratio of male to female was 6.3 : 1 and the highest incidence was in 5th decade.
2) The main etiologic disease was acute and chronic pancreatitis in 14 cases(63.6%), trauma in 4 cases(18.2%).
3) The common clinical symptom and signs were abdominal pain in 20 cases(90.9%), upper abdominal palpable mass in 14 cases(63.6%), nausea and vomitting in 13 cases(59.1%).
4) With regard to the labaratory findings, the leukocytosis was the most common abnormal laboratory finding and increased amylase was found in 59.1%.
5) The most accurate diagnostic method was abdominal CT scan.
6) The most common preoperative complication of pseudocyst was secondary infection in 4 cases, pulmonary complication and ascites in 3 cases each.
7) The location of pseudocst were body, tail and head, in order of frequency.
8) In the regard of operative procedures, internal drainage was performed in 13 cases; cystojejunostomy in 7 cases, cystogastrostomy in 4 cases, cystoduodenostomy in 2 cases, and external drainage in 7 cases and excision in 2 cases.
9) There was few postoperative complications in the case of internal drainage, compared to the cases of external drainage.
10) Reoperation was performed in 3 cases due to recurrent of persistent pseudocyst.
